Sneak peak at my son’s birthday invite

Birthday parties for kids are a big deal now-a-days.  I’m going to sound old and crusty, but when I was a kid we didn’t really need a theme, just cake and presents!  For my son’s first birthday party we went with a baseball theme.  I’m a hapless Royals fan and doing baseball cupcakes and ballpark food (dogs, burgers, nachos) made the party easy to pull off.   I created a rookie baseball card as the invitation, complete with stats and “career-highlights”.  It was a fun little project that I thought my wife could tuck away in the baby book, and hey, if Corbin made it pro I could cash the extras in and retire.  I was not going to do anything creative like that for his second birthday, but a week before the party great-grandma was asking where her #2 card was.  So I made a NASCAR/Disney Pixar Cars themed card to go with our “Cars Movie” theme.

This year the party will be Avengers/Hulk themed, complete with a Incredible Hulk cake.  So the design just came naturally, and I had the perfect picture to use.

The front is modeled after the old-school Incredible Hulk comic book covers and the back will mimic the  Avengers movie poster complete with Corbin’s “super-powers”/year 3 highlights.

If you or someone you know has a kid birthday or themed party coming up and would like a custom invite or party favor get in touch!

Web Banner Design

Just a quick update today.  Here’s a project I have been working on for a client here in Wichita.  They needed a simple and clean web banner for their email communications.  I have over 15 years of web graphics experience so if you need a graphic or image for your website I would love to help.

Ray’s Hotrods

Well, it has been another crazy week at “Tyree Studio”.  My daughter is a month old already!  How did that happen?  We are still trying to grab sleep when we can around here, but things are getting better.  “Baby-Sister” seems to really be growing attached to mommy and every once in a while she will cuddle with her dad.  Big brother is always wanting to help and is very protective of her.

I have been busy with clients as well.  Cranked out another caricature this week for a nice lady here in Wichita.  Her husband has 3 hot-rods that he is pretty fond of.  I could only figure out a way to fit 2 in the caricature (space restrictions), but my client was happy and she passed on my business cards to her friends and family.  That’s all you can ask for!  If you or someone you know would like a custom caricature, logo, mural, website or other creative project please let me know.  I would like to have my own hot rod to bust knuckles on again someday…

I have also been busy searching for another job.  I had a really nice meeting today with http://www.360wichita.com/ that seems promising!  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

10 Years of Rock’n Roundups!

Just finished up the cover illustration for this year’s Jayhawk Roundup party invitation.  8 of the past 10 years I have had the pleasure to work on this project for the KU Alumni Association and their annual fundraiser.  I am hoping that this is a relationship that can continue even though I am no longer affiliated with KU.  Lynn and Susan from the Alumni Association have been a pleasure to collaborate with on this project.

The goal was to visually show the 10 years of Roundup themes without resorting to a standard collage of photos.  The event is held every year in a barn so I thought we should make the barn the centerpiece and have the props and decorations from 10 years falling out the open barn doors (kind of like when you open your cluttered hallway closet at home).

If you can’t drive them, draw them…

Working on another “car caricature” for a client this afternoon so I thought I would share these illustrations I completed last month for Brooke’s boyfriend in Hutchinson KS. He has a pretty sweet fox-body 80s mustang and this unique “rat-rod”.

Update long over-due…

It’s been a while since I’ve updated this blog but life has been busy.  My time at KUMC-Wichita is coming to a close and I’ve been busy sending out resumes and scheduling interviews.  I’ve also been helping Melissa get everything in order for “baby-sister” to arrive…could be any moment now.  I got in trouble for not answering my phone this morning!

I’ve been busy designing as well.  Below is the latest logo I’ve designed for Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant in Haysville, KS.  If you are ever in Haysville and craving good, authentic Mexican food please stop by and visit them.  The owner Jorge is a really good guy and the food is awesome!

If you or someone you know needs design work (illustration, logo-design, web-design) please feel free to contact me! I’m always looking for new projects and enjoy helping meet other’s creative needs.
